Morris Levy had a habit of claiming songwriting (or crediting DJs he wanted favors from) on many tracks.
After all, he was the man credited with the famous one-liner "Royalties? If you want royalties, go to England."
Nick Tosches wrote a great article on record labels and the mob (in Vanity Fair) a few years ago. It's a great read.

The Tina/Vanetta Fields cut was originally on an lp - 'Live - The Ike and Tina Turner Show", on Warner Bros. Basically covers of then recent hits, but shows the excitement Ike and company could muster up.

djack
I know what you mean about Yuro. When I started to find her LPs I was stunned at some of the material she was doing. I also had no idea about the Phil Spector connection to 'What's a Matter Baby'. That's one powerful sounding record!

Nice set of tunes.
Timi Yuro was something else. Interesting that you slotted her right after Dinah Washington because that's the closest comparison I could ever think of. An amazing voice but a frustrating discography. I wish she had recorded a lot more soul/R&B instead of all the standards/country-pop/cabaret stuff. Although that's good too.

"What's A Matter Baby" is definitley a highlight, the record was finished by Phil Spector after her original producer quit during the session, by the way.

And that Shirley Ellis track is indeed sweet.
