I grew up in Michigan, and Grand Funk was a well known joke. They murdered this tune, removed all the soul from it. HOWEVER, I dig yer site the most! Any Fortune Records stuff like The Diablos? Anyways, keep on keepin' on.

Have seen John play out at many many juke joints in Rochester. Just John and a drummer named Sam. His voice is excellent and for 2 cats they make a ton of noise,. I believe John lives in Ontario. He tells the story that "Some kind of Wonderful" put all his kids thru school. It's great to hear a story from a musician who doesn't feel ripped off. He's a great gentleman.

I'm now officially impressed - This track is actually my favourite soul track of all time, I used to have it on a great Atlantic compilation on cassette, long since lost, and just tracked it down on a new compilation 'This is Soul' from Atlantic, released last year.

Joss Stone also did a rubbish version on her first albumn of covers. Like you say, the loose feel of this captures the sweaty club feel better than almost any track, heartfelt lyrics and fab groove. Who could ask for more?

Larry, I have two CD versions of this song. I remembered a three note chord played in the song, my digital versions do not have it. This vinyl version has it, around the 56 second mark, thanks for solving a mystery for me.
I enjoy your blog immensely; you have helped me greatly in my own never ending oldies search.
Thank you

I have a similar experience.. being British, first hearing the record covered on the Inmates 'Shot In The Dark' (1980). My favourite SB6 track has to be 'Thank You Baby For Loving Me'.
